As the business and investments grow between Egypt and China, NBE has established the Representative Office in Shanghai to facilitate and promote trade business and investment opportunities between the two countries since 1999.  During these eight years, the Representative office has been an instrumental tool to successfully promote the commercial activities between the two countries. At the end of 2007, the bi-lateral trade volume between China and Egypt had increased from 800 million USD in 1999 to 4.7 billion USD, and the Chinese investment in Egypt had grown to 430 million USD while the Egypt investment in China had grown from zero to 59.39 million USD.

As the speedy growth of the trade and investment between the two countries continues, NBE has since established the Shanghai branch as the third of their overseas branches to service the local business community and also continues to facilitate the business growth between the two countries.  According to the long-term plan of the Egyptian government, China will become its most important trade partner by 2010.  In addition, as the commercial activities between China / Africa and China / Arabian countries boom, the Shanghai branch will play an important role in serving this market as well.
